The OpenHere search engine is a directory organized around thirty major categories. You may also view the directory's contents via an Alphabetical directory or via a State by State directory. Unlike other major directories, it tries to make OpenHere a safe environment for children, by making efforts to avoid linking directly to known pornographic sites and sites containing material which is illegal to display to minors. I like the organization of this directory better than most, but I must rate it lower than many others simply because it is new and therefore relatively small in content. The site submission process is similar to Yahoo in that one must locate the most appropriate subcategory for the site and then submit the page. When submitting a site the email address of the submitter must appear on the page submitted. This is an awkward requirement in that many websites have that information on a contact page and not on the mail home page. They say the email address can be in a commented (hidden) place, but that means one has to modify one's page to comply with their requirements which is another hassle.
