Microsoft has combined the features of a directory like Yahoo with the Alta Vista search engine. When results are returned, the directory results are listed at the top followed by the Alta Vista results. Microsoft, like Yahoo, mis-classified a web page I submitted. I could not evaluate the size of their directory, but I would surmise that it is smaller than Yahoo, Lycos and the Open Directory. With the resources Microsoft has, I would not be surprised if they take the lead in size of directory someday. When you use the advanced search option, it looks like you are just searching the Alta Vista database because the results don't include MSN's directory results. MSN has a How to add your page to MSN Search instruction page. And they also offer tips and restrictions on submitting URLs . You may also go directly to the actual Add URL form page. MSN says it can take up to six weeks to be added to their directory. I don't know if they submit your URL to Alta Vista also. I would submit two both engines to play it safe. MSN provides some basic search engine help. MSN Search uses the Alta Vista technology so they also provide advanced search engine strategies for Alta Vista
