JumpCity is Net-based Almanac to the "best of the Web"
featuring reviews of selected Web sites on almost any subject you could imagine.
That's what they set out to do, but there seem to be problems. I did a search
on the term "HTML". Among the first ten results returned I found
"The Films of Stanley Kubrick" and no sites that appeared to cover HTML.
I know they are there because I found them using their directory under
the subject line "Web Page Development". Some of the sites had
"HTML" in the title, but the search engine couldn't locate them. So they
have nice reviews of sites and you can find them by drilling down through
the directory. You just can't reliably search for them. It doesn't score very
high as a search engine to me. The name of the site is derived from the
fact that their reviews can be accessed using their "Jump" codes. But
where do you find those? They expect you to buy their printed directory
and look them up there. That doesn't make sense to me. They provide
details that define a jump code. The directory
does have some good content, but it is only two levels deep and after
the first level, it only shows 10 items at a time. Not a very efficient way
to find something. Oh, I get it. I should buy the book. Duh...
The site uses frames which I find to be a nuisance in search engines.
You can submit sites to them for review.
They also have a help page.
The site is offered by Internet Media Corp.
