GoTo.com is a directory with a difference. The placement of a listing is determined by how much the website owner is willing to pay. The more they pay, the higher they are listed. They show the amount of the fee for each listing. I saw several sites that paid almost one dollar per referral. They must really want your business. Many sites are listed that show no referal fee so you can apparently submit a site without paying a minimum or referal fees. If you are interested, you will need to determine if there are any cost for you. This approach may actually benefit the user because the higher listed (higher fee) listing may be a higher quality (commercial) site because the owner is willing to pay to get your attention. On the other hand, content rich high quality non-profit sites will probably be way down the list. Even quality commercial sites may not want to pay the fee and receive a lower level listing. All of the above not withstanding, It's not a bad search engine and I encourage you to use it. They also have a referal program where they pay websites for referals to their site. To maintain my independence, I do not participate in that program.
